Dog Diarrhoea
What can I do if my dog has diarrhoea?
The first thing to do is change the diet. Feed scrambled eggs, or fish or chicken along with pasta or rice. Feed 2 small meals rather than one. If your dog has a simple upset, this will settle over 24 hours. If diarrhoea persisits or if there is blood present, then call Parkside for an appointment as infection may be the cause.
An upset which seems to settle, then worsens rapidly, usually means that a bug (usually bacteria or possibly a virus) has taken hold and this needs Veterinary treatment. These usually respond quickly to treatment.
Longstanding diarrhoea or recurring cases may need investigations with samples, bloods and occasionally Xrays being necessary, but this is rare.
