Orthopaedic Referrals

Stuart Ashworth with head nurse, Gillian Nelson

Stuart Ashworth, one of the Parkside Partners has a specialisation in orthopaedics. This allows us to give your pets the best treatments available if you have any orthopaedic problem. This may be a lameness, back pain, broken bones etc, for which we have all the facilities and specialised equipment necessary to undertake the best diagnosis and treatment possible. You can see some examples in the Interesting Cases section. We  frequently repair fractures using bone plates and external fixators. We investigate spinal problems with epidural contrast techniques. We carry our vertebral disc fenestrations and investigate neurological problems.

Stuart is even qualified to undertake the complicated "Slocum Method" for correcting a rupture to the anterior cruciate ligament (a common footballer's knee injury) using the Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy technique ( see more  HERE). We use this mainly in larger dog breeds and is the repair-method of choice for giant breeds. The specialised implants and tools for this are only available from the Slocum Foundation in America, which we can only receive following an instruction course in America.

Stuart is one of a handful of Vets in Scotland who is qualified to carry out this surgical procedure.
