Pyometra

A large folded womb is seen on Xray

A Pyometra involves removing the womb because of disease, with the womb as big as it would be if pregnant, only full of pus. This makes surgery more dangerous, with an ill patient. Such bitches are inappetant, drinking lots, uausally a few weeks after a season.

In the other photo you can see the huge womb partly removed. The normal womb would weigh around 8 ounces in this bitch, but this one weighed in at 4.6 pounds (over 2 Kg)
