Cosequin Equine

proven effectiveness

COSEQUIN® NOTHING COMES CLOSE IN JOINT MANAGEMENT

What is Cosequin?

Cosequin is the worldwide No.1 supplement designed to support the health and function of your horse’s joints. Cosequin is the most extensively researched product in its field. It is very pure, contains only the highest quality ingredients and is manufactured to human pharmaceutical standards.

What does it contain?

Cosequin Equine contains a unique formulation of glucosamine hydrochloride (FCHG49®), chondroitin sulphate TRH122®), manganese sulphate and Vitamin E. This combination is not found in any other equine joint product. Other forms and sources of glucosamine and chondroitin are different and have not been shown to have the same benefits as Cosequin. Only the molecules in Cosequin are chosen and trusted by the National Institute of Health (US) as a recognised standard.

Only Cosequin contains 100% pure chondroitin sulphate*.

*TRH122 is now 100% pure CSBioactive

What does Cosequin do?

Cosequin Equine supports optimum joint health in many different ways: it maintains not only articular cartilage structure but also the health & function of accessory joint structures such as ligaments, tendons and joint fluid.

Which horses should take Cosequin?

Cosequin is appropriate for all horses and ponies whose joints have increased supportive requirements – especially competing, growing or older horses.

Are there any side effects?

No – there are no recognised side effects of Cosequin administration. Cosequin can also be safely given in combination with other joint support which the horse may already be receiving. However these additional supplements can often be discontinued without any detriment to the horse’s health.

What makes Cosequin Equine better than other joint supplements?

Cosequin’s formulation is unique. Unlike other products available, numerous well-respected research papers have been published to confirm its supportive qualities scientifically. No other joint supplement can match this amount or quality of research. The three main ingredients of Cosequin are proven individually and have been shown to act synergistically – so the effect of all three is maximised.

The type and source of chondroitin sulphate and glucosamine hydrochloride are very important – there are lots of different forms. Many are simply too big to be absorbed from the gut and they have not been shown to have the same activity in promoting joint health. The Cosequin formulation is considered by the American and European Pharmacopoeia as a reference standard. The results of one comparative study showed that only one of ten different types of chondroitin sulphate approached and none bettered the activity of TRH122 found only in Cosequin.2

Many products do not state the sort of chondroitin they contain but no other animal product contains the unique patented molecules of Cosequin.
Cosequin is a worldwide recognised quality standard.

Many products do not state the purity, source of chondroitin or expiry date of the product, and often safety/toxicity trials have not been performed. This information is freely available for Cosequin.

Some products use shark-derived chondroitin and this raises conservation issues for our wildlife; the chondroitin in Cosequin is from an ethical, renewable source.

How is Cosequin given?

Cosequin is initially given at a ‘loading’ rate for 2-6 weeks to replenish the depleted stores of the building blocks necessary to produce cartilage. At the end of this time, the amount of Cosequin can usually be reduced by half to a maintenance level based on the horse’s demeanour. Reduction in the amount of Cosequin given should be gradual; one scoop at a time, and the amount should not be reduced more than once per week.

Once the maintenance amount is reached, administration should be continued life-long. The amount may be increased at any time if needed. Please always consult your Veterinary Surgeon who will advise the optimum amount for your horse or pony.

Is Cosequin easy to give?

Yes! Cosequin Equine powder is easy to give and well accepted by most horses when mixed in the hard feed. A small amount of water or molasses will help. Cosequin stick to the grains. Cosequin can also be mixed with a treat or a small amount of sugar beet pulp for fussy feeders.

Cosequin is available from your Parkside at a very special (low!) price.

Cosequin Equine powder is not suitable for dogs and cats as the optimal ratio of glucosamine to chondroitin is different for these species. Cosequin is available in tasty chewable tablets and powder filled capsules for dogs and cats.
